Students in Mrs. Kitchens' American Literature 252 class read Lin-Manuel Miranda's musical drama In the Heights, and examined poetic elements within several of the songs. These projects look at the language that is brought to life in the musical with analysis of both the text of the songs and the visual rhetoric seen in the movie or play production version of the song. We hope you enjoy a look into some musical literature!
Students in Kristin Henderson's ENG 252 courses considered how music can enhance the understanding of a text's meaning. Students chose a single text from the American Literature II reading list to either "Make It a Musical" by choosing songs that augment the theme of the piece at various points, or to create a "Character Mixtape" to express a character's emotional development throughout the work.
