Each term, Theatre Appreciation students are assigned to write a short original play. For most, this is an intimidating and unfamiliar assignment that usually turns out to be one of their favorite projects of the semester. They especially enjoy watching their classmates' plays being "performed."
In keeping with this year's theme of "Lore," Lesley Warren's Theater 120 students selected mythological or legendary characters to include in their scripts. This spin encouraged students to get even more creative with their scripts, justifying why Dracula would be eating dinner with King Midas, or how Robin Hood could best Apollo with a pencil.
This is a great exercise for students who struggle with writing because of its informality. Characters speak conversationally, so the pressure of being grammatically correct is off. The only real rule is that students embrace their inner weirdos, stop judging themselves, and just let their pens fly!
