Fall 2022

Culinary Arts Competition Team

This clip represents the hard work and commitment that goes into culinary competitions. It takes a team approach: commitment and support from the college, from instructors, and most importantly, from student competitors. We are proud of our 2021-2022 SkillsUSA competitors this year and their placement: Placing 1st Gold Medal in the State, Placing Top Ten Nationally, Placing with a Gold and Bronze Medal Nationally, and following in the previous footsteps of JSCC-CHI top ten national winners to include Gold and Silver medals. The theme is Competition + Hard work = Success!

Phi Theta Kappa - Beta Lambda Delta

PTK - Beta Lambda Delta Pretty Terrific Kids Books

We, the Beta Lambda Delta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, are writing the Pretty Terrific Kids series to bring a vision of accessibility, inclusion, and equity in play to life through children’s books. The books focus on characters with physical and mental disabilities and disorders, aiming to teach our readers about accessibility and inclusivity in play. We created these children’s books to fulfill the target requirements of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society’s Honors in Action (HIA) project. With this year’s topic being “The Art and Science of Play,” the HIA project is designed to combine academic research, problem solving, and action-oriented service to address real-world challenges in local communities. Today, our mission as Beta Lambda Delta remains centered around inspiring and educating the world about accessibility in play and to incite positive change through the Pretty Terrific Kids series. Below are pictures of the books created by the chapter, but viewers can follow the link to read the full e-book versions: www.prettyterrifickids.com

Warren's Theater 120

Volunteer Theatre Appreciation students were challenged to take the knowledge of theatrical production they learned in class and apply them to a performance at PioneerCon. Appropriately, director Jenna Kelly selected the short play "A Game" by Dennis E. Noble. Jenna and her cast (West Key, Abby Kelley, Jess Sheffield, and Aaliyah Wilson) developed a concept that went beyond the script; they created a show that challenged the audience to consider just how little it takes for people to devolve to the point of losing their humanity (not long). The inclusion of masks came directly from the study of Greek theatre and Commedia dell'Arte and was a brilliant addition by the director.  Click on the following images below to launch the videos of the play in its entirety.
