EdReady

Jefferson State's EdReady site lets you test yourself in math then helps you with a customized study path.  If you want to place into college-level math, save time, and money, then JSCC EdReady is right for you!

Smarthinking

Smarthinking is available to all Jefferson State English and Math students.  View the brochure for additional information.

Smarthinking's tutors work with students onlineusing a virtual whiteboard.  Students can also submit questions offline at anytime and a tutor will respond within 24 hours.

English Tutoring

Tutoring by qualified instructors for writing and/or English courses is available at the Shelby - Hoover and Jefferson Campuses beginning this fall term.  Students can also meet for a 30-minute writing consultation, working one-on-one with a writing coach for any writing assignment in a JSCC course.

About Us

The Learning Success Center (LSC) is designed to promote access to computer technology, online resources and instructional programs to both college students and community residents in support of achievement of their academic career or life goals.   From students needing to improve study habits, to individuals identifying learning strengths and weaknesses, to striving to create a sensitive environment that is conducive to learning by providing multifaceted academic, and professional support to students,   staff, and faculty of Jefferson State Community College. Computer-assisted instruction, tutorial sessions and seminars are just a few of the tools used for educational development. Individual programs can be designed to address academic concerns for a unique learning experience.

Computer Labs for Faculty Use

The Learning Success Center provides computer labs for faculty use in conducting classes.  Faculty may reserve a computer lab by completing one of the online forms below.

Jefferson Campus LSC Computer Lab

  • Lurleen Wallace Hall Room 200
  • Hours:  8:00 am to 8:00 pm
  • Booking is required.  Use the online form to request a booking.

Shelby Campus LSC Computer Lab

  • General Studies Building Room 320.  
  • Hours: 8:00 am to 8:00 pm
  • Booking is required.  Use the online form to request a booking.

Open Computer Labs

The college also provides open computer labs for student use at all four campuses.  Each lab is networked and has Internet access and printing.

Jefferson Campus

  • Ruby Carson Hall 120
    • Monday – Thursday from 8 a.m. – 9:30 p.m.
    • Friday from 8 a.m. – Noon
  • Learning Resource Center, Allen Library Building [top floor]
    • Ten networked computers for student use are available in the Jefferson LRC during library hours.

Shelby Campus

  • Health Science Building 451
    • Monday – Thursday from 8 a.m. – 9:30 p.m.
    • Friday from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • General Studies Building
    • The Learning Resource Center at the Shelby Campus has a networked computer lab with 22 computers and networked printer.  The lab is open during library hours.

St. Clair Campus

  • Learning Resource Center
    • The St. Clair LRC has five networked computers for student use; available during library hours.
    • Second Floor: an open computer lab is available on the second floor of the St. Clair Campus Building; hours vary - contact the main office at (205) 812-2700.

Chilton Campus

  • Learning Resource Center
    • The Chilton LRC has fourteen networked computers for student use; available during library hours.
    • Second Floor Rooms 201 and 205 are open computer labs; the labs are open anytime the building is open; hours may vary - contact the main office at (205) 280-8200.
