Career Coach for Workforce Education

Requirements:

  • Age 50+ with High school graduate or GED
  • Register and attend “7 Smart Strategies Workshop,”
  • Be accepted into AARP Coaching Program
  • Referred by Career Services for Fast- Track skills training.
  • Most programs are covered including books, certification exams, etc.

  • Clinical Medical Assistant
  • IT Helpdesk
  • Medical Assistant for Vision
  • Medical Billing and Coding
  • Paralegal
  • Full Stack Web Development with PHP
  • Welding

Scholarship Benefits:

  • Registration fee/Malpractice/Student ID are covered by BTW
  • Books and other materials that are covered will be purchased by Workforce Education and students pick up from WE office
  • Certification exam vouchers are purchased and sent to students
  • Benefits may vary due to funding

Career Pathways

Requirements:

  • High school graduate or GED
  • Willing to meet with  Adult Education teacher for mentoring appointment weekly
  • Register and attend orientation where the candidate will be tested

To register call 205-856-7710 and request to register for a Pathways Orientation, where candidates will take the TABE test    Covered programs:

  • Most programs are covered.

Scholarship Benefits:

  • Students will need to complete the NC/CE application through SSB.
  • Career Pathways covers only the registration fee.
  • Books/Materials/Certification Exam are purchased by the student.
  • Does not cover other incidentals
  • Must post-TABE after completion of training program

Jefferson County CTE

Requirements:

  • Jefferson County residents in House District 15
  • High school graduate or GED
  • Financial need by providing his/her latest tax return. If you are unemployed, submit an unemployment letter.
  • Proof of residency. This could be a copy of rental/lease agreement, deed to residential property, home utility bill, employee documents, etc.
  • Students will need to complete the NC/CE application through SSB.

Jeremiah's Hope

Jeremiah’s Hope is a partnership with St. Vincent’s Hospital.

  • Students are referred to JH to attend an Orientation
  • After Orientation, students can apply for partial scholarship for skills training
  • This program is a wrap-around service with Career Coach

Requirements:

  • Application process with St. Vincent’s
  • Kim Sztanyo is the Program Manager 205- 838-3856
  • Jeremiah’s Hope refers students to Career Pathways and WIOA before considering their application with the Foundation

WIOA Youth

WIOA Youth provides access to and opportunities for education, training, employment and support services to youth with barriers to education and employment.  Applicants must apply through local Career Center.

Requirements:

  • Individual NOT attending any school
  • Age 17 – 24
  • Education/Employment barriers

CAPTE covers tuition, books, training materials, cost of assessments, tests and other training costs required for the identified training programs.

  • Administrative Medical Assistant
  • Basic Computer
  • Certified Nursing Assistant
  • Certified Production Assistant
  • IT Help Desk
  • SERV Safe Food Safety Manager

Scholarship Benefits:

  • Registration fee/Malpractice/Student ID are covered by CAPTE
  • Books and other materials that are covered will be purchased by Workforce Education and students pick up from WE office
  • Certification exam vouchers are purchased and sent to students

WIOA

WIOA is a program to train/retrain dislocated workers and low-income students who lack marketable skills. WIOA eligibility is determined through Alabama Career Centers.  Applicants must apply through local Career Center.

Requirements:

  • Unemployed or Underemployed or based on income
  • Must have a high school diploma
  • Must take TABE test

WIOA covers tuition, books, and certification exams.

  • Students are provided book vouchers by WIOA to purchase books and materials from JSCC Bookstore
  • Students pay for background checks, drug screens and certification exam and are reimbursed by WIOA
