Streaming Video: Mathemedia Series
- Mathemedia is a comprehensive pre-algebra curriculum consisting of twelve programs focusing on key mathematical principles that apply to real-life situations. Difficult concepts are illustrated by dramatic segments in which characters use math to solve common problems. Animated computer graphics help students visualize the problems and solutions.
- Mathemedia was developed to meet the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics’ Curriculum and Evaluation Standards for School Mathematics, and materials correlate to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Secretary’s Commission on Achieving Necessary Skills report.
- Mathemedia: GraphsThis video describes how to read, interpret, and evaluate data displayed in bar graphs, line graphs, and pie charts.
- Mathemedia: Decimals and ExponentsThis video describes how whole numbers and decimals are used in the monetary system, how to calculate costs in foreign currencies, and how to use exponents
- Mathemedia: Logical ReasoningThis video describes how to recognize and apply inductive and deductive reasoning.
- Mathemedia: MeasurementThis video describes how to estimate costs of products and services, determine the circumference of an object and its effect on motion, and calculate area and volume.
- Mathemedia: FractionsThis video describes the meaning of fractions and how to solve problems involving sums and products.
- Mathemedia: Postive and Negative NumbersThis video describes how to perform computations using positive and negative numbers, interpret the results, and determine the break-even point in a business situation.
- Mathemedia: FormulasThis video describes how to construct formulas and equations, solve equations with one variable, and use formulas in basic computer spreadsheets.
- Mathemedia: RatiosThis video describes how to identify and form equivalent ratios and ratio tables, express ratios as both fractions and decimals, and interpret map scales to calculate distances.
- Mathemedia: PercentagesThis video describes how to calculate with percentages and interpret and use percentage figures that appear in diagrams and charts.
- Mathemedia: Area and VolumeThis video describes how to calculate the area of rectangles and other shapes-both geometrical and irregular-and how to determine the volume of a rectangular solid.
