Testing Centers

Information

Jefferson State Community College requires a comprehensive assessment of students in math, English, and ESL classes prior to enrollment in classes unless appropriate exemptions are on file with Enrollment Services. Course placement is determined by the results of this assessment. Students enrolled in courses for which they are ineligible will be administratively withdrawn. There is no fee for initial math and English placement tests. Students may retake the ACCUPLACER exam once per academic year.

Students may arrive any time between the hours listed. Students must present photo identification and have an application for enrollment on file with Enrollment Services at the time of testing. It is highly recommended that a student take the placement test at least 5 business days prior to any program deadline that one may need to meet.

AccuPlacer Resources

Use the following three-step study plan to get prepared and confident to succeed on an official ACCUPLACER® assessment:

  • Step 1:  Take Practice Test 1 for the ACCUPLACER® tests you’re focusing on: Arithmetic, College-Level Math, Elementary Algebra, Reading Comprehension, and/or Sentence Skills. When you finish each test, use the instant score report to see a breakdown of your score and identify the areas in which you need to improve. Don’t forget to review the answer explanations for the practice questions that you got wrong or weren’t sure about—often the best preparation comes from seeing the reasoning behind why an answer is right or wrong.
  • Step 2:  Your score reports will also recommend skill-building practices, tutorials, and eBooks targeted to your study needs. Be sure to take advantage of these resources to ensure your best scores on test day. The interactive tutorials are an especially helpful resource — you can read through the tutorials from start to finish, or use the navigation menu to focus on specific skills as needed. Make sure to take the quizzes contained in each tutorial to help measure your progress.
  • Step 3:  Finally, take Practice Test 2 for the tests you’re preparing for: Arithmetic, College-Level Math, Elementary Algebra, Reading Comprehension, and/or Sentence Skills. When you’re finished, use the score reports to see if there are any topics you need to work on further before test day. If so, take a second look at the tutorials listed in Step 2, or head to the Core Math and Science Skills Review and Core English Skills Review learning centers. They contain a wide range of eBooks and resources that may cover the material in a way that makes better sense for you.
