Professional Development

Introduction

  • Jefferson State Community College believes strongly in the importance of continued professional growth of its employees through formal professional development classes and work shops. 
  • The Center for Workforce Education currently offers several classes through its Professional Development Institute.  The classes range in content from supervisory and leadership skills to computer-related training. 
  • Jefferson State employees will now have the opportunity to participate in the classes.  The goal of this initiative is to help employees enhance their job skills, obtain job-related knowledge and information, increase  productivity and efficiency, and/or prepare for higher-level positions.

Administrative and staff employees hired after January 1, 2018 will be required to take three classes in their first year of employment: 

  1. customer service
  2. communication
  3. one class from among the computer training offerings

Employees may take one or more PDI classes throughout the year, as approved by their supervisors.

Process

  • Employees must seek prior approval from their supervisor before registration.
  • Employees will register for classes online or by contracting the Center for Workforce Education.
  • Employees who successfully complete a class will receive a Certificate of Completion from the Center for Workforce Education.
