Wingspan and Pioneer Con Joint Submissions

About the Events

  • Wingspan is the literary and arts magazine published each year by Jefferson State Community College, usually appearing at the start of the Spring semester. Our mission is to bring together a range of poetry, prose, art, and photography to produce a magazine that reflects the work and interests of both our college community and the communities we serve. We accept submissions from students, faculty, staff, and community members all year long. Each person whose work is chosen to appear in the magazine receives two free copies of the print magazine and is invited to read at the Spring “Evening of Performance” event. Hard copies of Wingspan are available at campus libraries, and an electronic version is also available on the Jefferson State website.
  • Pioneer Con is Jefferson State Community College’s half comic-con, half academic conference. The event takes place each Fall semester, in mid-October. The mission of Pioneer Con is to provide an opportunity for students, faculty, staff, and those outside of the Jefferson State Community to “release their inner geek.” We strive to take a creative and fun approach to the serious academic issues raised by speculative literature and media. Submission types may include a proposal for an individual paper, a proposal for a group roundtable, an image submission to our art gallery or a submission to one of our writing contests.
  • You may submit the same piece(s) to both Wingspan and Pioneer Con using this form. You will have the opportunity to choose your genre and event on the following pages. Submission questions may be addressed to the faculty editor and co-director of Pioneer Con, Katie Boyer, at kboyer@jeffersonstate.edu.
