Instructions

  • This guide provides resources for three short stories:
    • Kate Chopin's "The Story of an Hour"
    • Raymond Carver's "Popular Mechanics"
    • John Updike's "A&P"
  • Use the tabs on the left to navigate to the resources for each story.
  • Resources include:
    • Research Starters on the author and/or the short story.
    • A few critical articles on each story to get you started
    • Access to the library's "Search Everything" discovery tool and all literature databases

Before you begin:

  • Access and complete the tutorial below on finding critical articles
  • Be sure to complete the information to receive your "Certificate of Completion"; you will be able to download/save/print the certificate to give to your instructor
  • Depending on the story you select, use the tabs on the left to navigate to the resources
